Yes, We’d Try Blue Wine

2 minute read

Even if you shudder at the thought of drinking blue liquid (for some reason, it makes us think of antifreeze), it’s hard to deny the splash that the Spanish wine company Gïk Live made online when they introduced blue wine to the UK.

“Forget all you know about wine,” the company declared. They seem to have chosen a weird color just to challenge modern-day expectations about wine—and make consuming it a little less serious.

The wine is made up of two pigments (anthocyanin and indigotine) and added non-caloric sweeteners with a base that is a mix of red and white grapes sourced “from all over.” The brand claims it uses grapes from different regions because they don’t want to be limited by traditional wine standards.

We appreciate the rebellious spirit. But is blue wine any good? We’d like the option to find out.
