The ultra-luxury experience is all about customizing objects to fit your unique taste and preferences: clothing, watches, supercars… and even whisky.
That’s right, bespoke whisky is a thing. But like all personalized luxury goods, it’ll cost you. A Signature Blend by John Walker & Sons for patrons of Johnnie Walker House in Singapore reportedly starts at S$260,000 (or about USD$193,350)—and you need a special invitation from Johnnie Walker to create a bottle for yourself.
These exclusive invitations go out only to successful individuals who embody the Johnnie Walker brand’s spirit of personal progress. Dr. Reynaldo Odulio, PhD, who owns Wheeltek Motor Sales Corporation, is the first Filipino (and the first person in Southeast Asia) invited by Johnnie Walker to create his own Signature Blend.
He started his motorcycle business in his home garage and grew Wheeltek into one of the largest dealers in the country. His story parallels John Walker’s humble origins as a grocer and tea blender whose whisky eventually transformed into one of the world’s most iconic brands.
“Dr. Odulio’s story resonates greatly with John Walker’s story. He is a self-made man who is fueled by passion and a relentless pursuit for excellence,” says Diageo Philippines General Manager Jon Good. “He is also a great fan of Johnnie Walker so it seemed only right to create the first Signature Blend in Southeast Asia with him.”
Odulio flew to Shanghai to create a flavor profile with Jim Beveridge, Johnnie Walker’s Master Blender. Odulio worked with a specially commissioned designer to conceptualize a decanter design completed with his signature.
Beveridge returned to Scotland to craft the final product based on Odulio’s preferences for taste, fragrance, and texture—a custom blend using the rarest Johnnie Walker whiskies from casks in the private reserves.
One particular bespoke detail that caught our attention? A representative said that Odulio mentioned that he liked serving lechon during special occasions and he wanted the blend to complement it. “I simply wanted to create something my family would treasure and enjoy,” Odulio says. “This signature blend is a priceless family legacy. It will always remind us to keep going and persevering.”
With only 50 bottles made, the Odulio Signature Blend is now the rarest Johnnie Walker in the world.
