Lemon + Port is an aromatic and spicy warming cocktail inspired by the classic winter holiday drink mulled wine. The fortified wine adds depth and richness with hints of dark fruit.
Glass: Clear coffee cups
Ingredients:
- 1 bottle Port
- 2 pcs lemon
- 16 cloves
- 5-6 oz. mixed spice syrup
Directions for Mixed Spice Syrup:
- 1 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 2 cups water
- 2 cups sugar
In a medium saucepan, heat the water and add all the spices and sugar. Stir the mixture until sugar is diluted. Set aside to cool. Pour in a jar and refrigerate for longer use.
Directions for Lemon + Port:
- Cut one lemon in the center. Stud each segment of the lemon slice with the cloves. It will resemble a studded wheel.
- Warm in a pan over medium heat for 15 minutes.
- Pour the port over the lemon, bring to boil and turn off. Set aside.
- In a separate pan add water with a pinch of salt.
- Add mixed spice syrup and squeeze lemons in the mixture.
- Remove the cloved lemon from the pan. Combine the two mixtures.
- Garnish with lemon peels studded with cloves.
