Countless songs have been inspired by whiskey, but how many songs have used instruments made out of whiskey barrels? Bushmills Irish Whiskey—the oldest licensed distillery in Ireland—partnered with guitar manufacturer and Northern Irish icon Lowden Guitars to create a new line of limited edition guitars made from Bushmills Irish Whiskey barrels and ancient bog oak. The finished result combines hundreds of years of cooper and luthier craftsmanship with three types of wood that are steeped in heritage and tradition.
The wood used for the guitars was personally handpicked by Lowden Guitars founder, George Lowden. For four decades, Lowden Guitars has pioneered the art of creating acoustic guitars, selecting only the very best quality of wood. In the spirit of tradition, George Lowden is passing his guitar making skills to his sons, ensuring that the Lowden legacy lives on for generations to come.
To commemorate Father’s Day, Bushmills® Irish Whiskey has released an acoustic performance of “Tell Them All” featuring the limited edition Bushmills X Lowden F-50 guitar by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Cairan Lavery. Recorded at the Old Bushmills Distillery, the song is written from the perspective of a son listening to his father’s wisdom.
The Bushmills X Lowden collaboration celebrates fathers who pass their traditional craftsmanship on to the next generation.
“As a musician, I believe it takes time for a guitar to find its true voice,” says Lavery. “What’s truly stunning about the Bushmills X Lowden guitar is that from the moment I picked it up I could see, hear, and feel the quality craftsmanship and wood that went into making it. It was as if someone had played it for 20 years and handed it to me. That’s pretty special and I can only imagine what it’s going to sound like in 20 years.”
