“The song ‘Give Love on Christmas Day’ inspires the cocktail. Christmas is the most exciting and anticipated holiday of the year for it is a season of joy, peace, and great tidings. It’s also a season of love, a time when the love of God and the love of our fellow men should prevail over all hatred and bitterness. The song goes, ‘No greater gift is there than love… What the world needs is love…Yes, the world needs more love…’ I decided to make a cocktail that symbolizes love, strawberry is a symbol for Venus, the goddess of love, and I used this as my main ingredient. Through this drink I want to share my love this Christmas season.” – Alyssa
Ingredients:
- 45 ml Bacardi 8
- 15 ml Pineapple juice
- 20 ml strawberry shrub
- 5 ml roasted almond syrup
- 2 drops sesame oil
- 10 ml Campari infused with strawberry
Glass used: Goblet
Garnish: Fresh strawberry fruit and apricot brandy mist
Directions:
- Put all the ingredients in a shaker.
- Dry shake. Set aside.
- Spray the outer part of the goblet with apricot brandy mist.
- Strain the cocktail in the glass.
- Garnish with fresh strawberry and serve.
How to make homemade strawberry shrub:
- Mix 250 ml apple cider vinegar, 250 ml white sugar, and 250 g fresh strawberry fruit. Bottle it all up for one week and store in the fridge.
How to make strawberry infused with Campari
- Add 150 grams of sliced fresh strawberry fruit in 400 ml Campari and infuse for one hour. You may strain the strawberry or leave it in the bottle to deepen infusion.
Tasting Notes: The nose registers a fruity floral aroma from the apricot brandy mist and you get a different flavor experience once you down the drink. The drink is refreshingly fruity and nutty with almond and sesame flavors. What lingers in your mouth is the long strawberry finish.
