National Rum Day is held on August 16 and commemorates the distilled spirit made from sugarcane byproducts such as sugarcane juice or molasses. In different parts of the world, people will be toasting to various rum celebrations that may last for weeks or a month.
People may conjure up images of pirates sailing the seven seas when they think of rum. But this spirit is so versatile that you can mix it in various ways and shouldn’t necessarily have to involve a pirate hat! Celebrate National Rum Day with these rum concoctions.

3) Doña Mamas
Another one of our favorites, this spirit-forward cocktail is easy to make but tastes very complex. It’s sweet, but not cloying, with a nutty finish brought out by the bitters and cookie syrup. Inspired by the Finale Art File gallery and the women behind it, Doña Mamas was created by DrinkManila.com during the La Fuerza Party last March 1, 2018.

5) Something Else
Something Else is a mix of familiar flavors in a complex, yet harmonious cocktail. The intense cocoa notes of SelvaRey Rum (SelvaRey combines the Spanish words “selva,” meaning jungle, and “rey,” meaning king) bring the fruity flavors of orange and pineapple and the nutty orgeat together. The added hints of spice from the syrup and pepper and fresh minty notes make this drink something else. You think the flavors won’t go together, but they do.

6) Kamias Daiquiri
Kamias, one of our endemic fruits, takes center stage in this refreshing, tart cocktail. Some might be apprehensive about trying this because even the thought of eating kamias makes the mouth water and the lips pucker, but this drink elevates kamias consumption in a new way. Balanced by the syrup and punched up by the rum, the kamias is at the forefront of this deliciously sour cocktail.
