The Dalmore recently unveiled a rare 51-Year-Old single malt, a masterpiece whisky which has evolved and matured in the world’s most exquisite casks for over half a century.
The Dalmore’s first release for the new decade, and reflects the distillery’s pioneering spirit and the enduring legacy of its 180-year history. Only 51 bottles of this limited-edition release have been created, each beautifully presented in a crystal decanter and high gloss presentation case.
While the case and bottle are exquisite, the real beauty of The Dalmore 51 lies within. The rich mahogany gold liquid with intense copper highlights reveals rare nuances of liquorice stick, Napoleon cake laced with Black Morello cherries, Old English marmalade, Modena Balsamic, and Oloroso sherry, bolstered by enticing aromas of roasted Java coffee, moist fruit cake covered in icing sugar, Brioche dipped in Manuka honey and pecan pie. Each sip starts with notes of juicy El Dorado plums, succulent sun kissed raisins, ginger cake sprinkled with Demerara sugar and Madagascan vanilla pod. The scent of creamy caramel, black molasses, and Doyenne pears soaked in aged tawny port and a final rhapsody of treacle sponge covered in hot chocolate, freshly baked wholemeal toast, pineapple and sweet sultanas harmoniously drift away on the aftertaste complete the flavor profile of The Dalmore 51.
The Dalmore Aged 51 Years was first matured in ex-bourbon casks and was then distributed between prestigious Port Colheita 1938 casks, exclusive Matusalem sherry casks and first-fill bourbon casks. The whisky was finally mixed together in specially selected bourbon barrels for a final flourish.
“The Dalmore 51 Year Old is a noble single malt of rare profundity and it has been my pleasure to closely follow its maturation over five decades,” says Richard Paterson, Master Distiller at The Dalmore. “I am always looking towards the future and I carefully consider how each distillation will evolve, moving our spirits to new wood to transform their conclusion. The Dalmore 51 Year Old is a fine example of this.”
Since the end of 2019, The Dalmore has been celebrating its 180th anniversary – a landmark that will be marked by a series of special releases and events throughout this year.
