The Tasting Club starts the new year with an exciting masterclass. Known for their thoughtful and inspired spirits and pairing events, they have collaborated with the country’s first rum bar, Buccaneers, to mount an exceptional virtual Rum Tasting Masterclass on Saturday, January 29.

Heading the masterclass is Captain Ulysse Jouanneaud, rum specialist and owner of pirate-themed Buccaneers, who will guide attendees through six different rum styles paired with selected food bites.
“The purpose of this tasting is to share how the category of sugar-cane spirits is wide and sophisticated as many drink enthusiasts are not familiar with the versatility of this category. This is why we also have included a Brazilian cachaça in the selection of craft spirits to be tasted,” explains Kevin Charuel, founder of The Tasting Club.
Apart from tasting the six rum styles, participants will also get to make a mojito following the original recipe from Cuba that Captain Ulysse will demonstrate. “The Mojito is definitely one of the most popular rum based cocktails in the world and this is the perfect drink to enjoy on a Saturday night with notes of fresh sweet mint” Kevin adds.

Spiced Rum – Stolen Gold (37.5% ABV)
Spanish Style Rum – Dos Maderas 5+5 Triple Aged Rum (40% ABV)
English Style Rum – Doorly’s 5yrs (40% ABV)
Brazilian Cachaça – Sagatiba Pura (40% ABV)
French Style Rum – Clairin Vaval (51.1% ABV) 
Jamaican High Ester Rum – Rum Fire by Hampden (63% ABV)
Participants will receive a tasting kit featuring 6 samples of craft rums (30 ml each), a selection of snacks (58% dark chocolate, salted pistachio, mango, pineapple, chocolate-covered strawberry, and chocolate-covered almond), and a mojito cocktail kit (fresh mint, fresh lime, white rum, sugar syrup, and club soda).
To make this tasting experience even more special, participants are invited to try the delicious Chocolate Chip Banana Pudding of M Bakery that can be ordered together with their tasting kit.
“This famous dessert created in New York is directly inspired by the original confection from Jamaica, in the Caribbeans, and it will elevate the flavors and aromas of the fine rum selection as it features layers of vanilla pudding, vanilla wafers, fresh bananas plus chocolate chips” Kevin emphasizes.
The Tasting Club’s Rum Tasting Masterclass is a great occasion for seasoned drinkers and spirit newbies to learn more about the craft behind the production of fine rums and explore the wonderful flavors of rum from the comfort of their own homes. The virtual tasting is scheduled for Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 5:00 pm on Zoom.
The tasting kit is set at Php 1,800 per person (6 rum samples, snacks, mojito ingredients, delivery within Metro Manila, and virtual presentation). The delicious Chocolate Chip Banana Pudding (12oz) is optional at Php 400 / cup.
