If you’re not ready to give up the fun this January, make sure to mark these dates on your calendar. Gear up for an exciting lineup of drink-related events and top bartender shifts around town. Here’s where you should be sipping and celebrating this month in Hong Kong.

1) Backdoor Bodega at The Opposites

Malaysia’s Backdoor Bodega (ranked No. 52 in Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2024) is heading to The Opposites to bring their unique flair to the bar. The cocktail masters from Penang, Koh Yung Shen, and Thanesh will be serving up playful tipples crafted from fun and engaging combinations of local ingredients.

2) Canto Nostalgia at Salisterra’s The Green Room

Celebrate Canto nostalgia at Salisterra’s intimate space, The Green Room, on January 17, featuring a special guest shift with Nic Law, co-founder of Hong Kong’s award-winning craft gin N.I.P. Distillery, and Gavin Yeung, co-founder of the Cantonese bar Kinsman. The duo will be crafting a unique lineup of Cantonese-inspired cocktails that capture the essence of Hong Kong. Sip and enjoy the view while listening to music by DJ Fabsabs.

3) Kinsman Turns One!

When: January 18, Saturday
Time: 7pm onwards
Where: Kinsman, 65 Peel Street, Central, Hong Kong

Join the celebration as Hong Kong’s Cantonese bar, Kinsman marks its first birthday on January 18! The tea-focused bar, Tell Camellia, will feature its founder, Gagan Gurung, alongside Ring Zhao, owner of Shenzhen’s Bar Choice, as they take over with signature drinks featuring Tanchuo baijiu and N.I.P. Distilling gin. Enjoy a night of great drinks paired with DJ beats from duo Beat Friday, filling the venue with lively Cantopop during the festivities.

One of the world’s best bars is taking over another for a one-night-only shift in Hong Kong! Caretaker’s Cottage, a popular Melbourne pub ranked No. 21 in the World’s 50 Best Bars 2024, will be guest bartending at Bar Leone, the top-ranked bar in Asia’s 50 Best Bars. Join Rob Libecans and Eddie Goddard for an unforgettable evening of exceptional cocktails.

5) Call Me Al Anniversary

Sheung Wan neighborhood bar Call Me Al is celebrating its second anniversary on January 19 with an all-day party, starting with a fun brunch followed by an evening event. From 12pm to 3pm, join the Dog Brunch and dress up your pooch in the best doggie costume. Enjoy free-flowing beverages and take part in the special raffle prizes. From 4pm to 6pm, there will be free smashed sliders, and fries will be available for only $50. From 7pm to 9pm, they will feature surprise guest bartenders from Hong Kong, Tokyo, Buenos Aires, and Mexico, so stay tuned to see who will be mixing behind the bar—according to the founders, it’s going to be good!

Macau’s Vida Rica Bar is making its way to Central to bring some of its signature drinks to Quinary. Featuring head mixologist Stefano Bussi, the 2024 World Class Bartender of the Year for Hong Kong and Macau, he will craft an impressive selection of cocktails made with Compass Box Whisky.

7) The Public House at The Diplomat

When: January 21, Tuesday
Time: 9pm to 11pm

One of Taiwan’s hottest bars is coming to Hong Kong for a special one-night shift at The Diplomat’s pink room, Social Club. Catch William Wu and Liam from Taipei’s renowned British pub, The Public House (ranked No. 44 in Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2024). VIP guests can enjoy the first session from 8pm to 9pm, followed by the general public from 9pm til 11pm.  

8) ‘Seoul Bro, K-Bistro’ Vol 2 at Gokan

When: January 20, Monday

Seoul is coming to Gokan for a one-night-only back-to-back shift on January 20, starting at 6pm. Catch Pomme Bar’s Roy Kim and Bar Cham’s Hwi Yun (ranked no. 20 in Asia’s 50 Best Bars) behind the stick, serving up two bespoke cocktail menus paired with some of their most popular bites from Seoul. Walk-ins are accepted, but it tends to get crowded, so be sure to hit up their booking link to secure your seats.

9) DarkSide’s Guest Bartender Series: Little Red Door

Paris’ Little Red Door (ranked No. 6 in the World’s 50 Best Bars 2023) will take over Rosewood Hotel’s flagship bar, DarkSide, for its Guest Bartender Series this January. Catch Lisa Rotoni and Pierre Bendaoud behind the bar from 8.30pm to 11pm for a two-day shift on January 26 and 27, where they will be crafting cocktails inspired by their celebrated Parisian roots.
