Four Philippine Cafes Voted the Best in the World

In a recently concluded gala at CoffeeFest Madrid, Spain, the inaugural list of The World’s 100 Best Coffee Shops was announced. This new recognition system aims to present a definitive guide to the best coffee shops around the globe, celebrating those who excel in every aspect of the coffee experience. The rankings were determined through public votes and evaluations by an expert panel, which judged each venue based on several key factors, including the quality of coffee, barista expertise, and customer service.

Toby’s Estate flagship cafe and roastery in Chippendale, Sydney, topped the list, with Onyx Coffee LAB in Arkansas coming in second. The highest rank for Asia went to Apartment Coffee in Singapore at number 6, followed by Story of Ono in Malaysia at number 9.

Four Philippine cafes made it onto the list, with the beloved Makati hotspot Yardstick taking the 18th spot, El Unión Coffee in San Juan, La Union at number 61, Single Origin with various branches around Metro Manila at number 83, and Crema & Cream Coffee Roasters in Quezon City at number 86.

Surprisingly, only one entry from Hong Kong made the list, with Espresso Alchemy ranked at 43, whose branches span from Taikoo Place to other parts of the city. Other Asian cafés include Koffee Mameya Kakeru from Japan at number 24, Anomali Coffee in Indonesia at 78, and Rufous Coffee Roasters in Taiwan at 85.
